Top quality drywall keeps noise levels down

Some concepts in a house are unique, and one of the home buyers’ passion is the open living space concept with tall ceilings. That concept details however can cause big problems with noises that reverberate around the home. Savvy builders are always on the lookout for ways to decrease sound levels in their dwellings, and some products can be of great help on that.

Saint-Gobain, a french company with a long tradition on offering building materials to new constructions and renovations has had its North American headquarters in Valley Forge, Pennsylvania for more than 40 year. The official entry into the North American market came in 1967 with the establishment of a joint venture with CertainTeed Corporation, that offers some options for the noise problems.

Easier, more efficient acoustic interior finishing is now possible with the company’s SilentFX QuickCut® noise-reducing gypsum board. An alternative to typical resilient channel or double layer wallboard applications, SilentFX QuickCut® allows building professionals to achieve acoustical control through a much less complicated installation process. It scores and snaps like regular drywall and achieves more reliable lab to field STC results when compared to traditional methods.

Specifically designed for residential and commercial construction projects requiring a high sound transmission class (STC) rating of 50 and higher, SilentFX QuickCut can be used for interior walls and ceilings in new construction or renovations over wood or steel framing. It provides square foot savings and high STC ratings with less product, which allows for thinner wall systems. In addition, SilentFX QuickCut addresses high and low frequency noises that double layer gypsum board cannot, and is more reliable than clips and channels by eliminating the possibility of decoupling or short-circuiting during or after installation.
